Course Description:

 

HHA 501 Health Administration   3 (3 + 0)

Identifyingthe nature of management and its particularities in health care organizations, such as hospitals and primary health care centers. The course elaborates on the various activities related to the provision of health services and the role that can be played by health administrators.

 

HHA 502 International Health Care Systems 3(3 + 0)

Focuses on health care systems in both developed and developing countries and compare such systems with the Saudi health care system. The comparison is placed on aspects related to curative and preventive activities, legislations and the components of health care systems.

 

QUA 520 Statistical Methods in Health Administration3 (3 + 0)

 Introducing biostatistics and principles of statistical techniques used in health care administration. Students will be acquired with qualitative and quantitative skills as well as various measures and statistical applications that can be used in solving health problems.

 

HHA 503 Health Services Research3 (3 + 0)

Provide students with knowledge on various research designs, data collection tools and methods, and various statistical data analysis techniques that are necessary to conduct scientific research.

 

HHA 504 Health Care Ethics 3 (3 + 0)

Understanding the main principle of health care ethics. Legislations, regulations and the relationship between health care providers and health recipients. Issues such as privacy, confidentiality, safety, security and the rights of patients during the treatment process or research will be examined.

 

ECON 524 Health Economics3 (3 + 0)

Understanding economics as a managerial tool in making choices that will provide an optimum allocation of resources. The course emphasizes the application of the economic theory to the problems of production, pricing, distribution, supply and demand for health and hospital services as public, goods. Applications relevant to the Saudi health sector will be analyzed.

 

HHA 505 Health Care Quality 3 (3 + 0)

This course reviews the basic principles and requirements of the total quality management in health care sector. It reviews various methodological issues related to the application of total quality management, its measurements, indicators and challenges.

 

HHA 506 Health Problem Solving and Decision Making3 (3 + 0)

Enable students to use scientific approaches in problem solving and decision making in health care organizations. The course will introduce students to practical issues that encounter decision makers and how such issues can be resolved.

 

HHA 507 Introduction to Public Health3 (3 + 0)

Introducing students to concepts of health, disease, biological and physical environments, and factors influencing the population's health. The course discusses some of the Saudi health care problems in relation to congenital, physical, psychiatric and iatrogenic issues and how such issues be managed.

 

MIS 523 Health Information Systems 3 (3 + 0)

Provide students with an understanding of how information systems and technology can be used to help health decision makers and providers in the delivery of better health services. Students will be exposed to various applications used in health organizations and how such applications can be evaluated and/or improved.

 

HHA 508 Performance Analysis and Measurement3 (3 + 0)

Acquiring students with knowledge and approaches used to determine performance of health care organizations, setting of standards, and preventing deviations on work performance. The course elaborates on recent developments on work performance in health care organizations.

 

HHA 509 Quality Control in Healthcare3 (3 + 0)

Understanding various applications and tools used to control the quality of health care services, including control charts, Pareto charts, inspection charts, histograms, scattered diagrams and other quantitative methods. Students will practice such techniques and applications in health facilities such as hospitals and health care centers.

HHA 517 Health Policies Analysis 3 (3 + 0)

Understanding public health policies related to the provision of health care and factors associated with such policies. Policy analysis, establishing new health policies and methods of putting them into practice are discussed.

 

HHA 518 Strategic Management in Healthcare Organizations 3 (3 + 0)

Understanding internal and external environments of health organizations, forecasting methods, future research in health care, dynamics of organization's culture and analysis, and other issues related to the strategic planning in health care.

 

HHA 519 Health Programs Planning and Evaluation 3 (3 + 0)

This course examines planning and evaluation models of health programs or organizations. It addresses practical issues such as creating new programs or evaluating current programs. Issues such as population needs assessment, program processes, outcome effectiveness and measurements are discussed.

 

FIN 512 Risks and Insurance Management 3(3 + 0)

The course discusses topics related to risk and management such as risk and its measurements,. Compensation, risks that can be covered, premium estimation and calculation, principles of re-insurance and exceptional risks.

 

 FIN 513 Financing Health Systems3 (3 + 0)

Understanding the various methods for financing health care systems. Alternatives of health care financing such as health insurance, privatization and direct payments will be explored. Experiences emerged from different countries will be highlighted and compared.

 

 HHA 514 Health Insurance Administration 3 (3 + 0)

Understanding the impact and role of health insurance programs on the delivery of health care. Understanding health insurance functions, types, characteristics and applications. Understanding the interactions between health care providers and insurance providers will be explored.

 

HHA 599 Research Project 3 (3 + 0)

This requirement is design to help student to conduct a scientific research in a topic relevant to the track chosen. Students will be facilitated with knowledge on how to collect, analyze and present data on issues relevant to the Saudi health care system using appropriate methodological approaches and techniques relevant to the chosen topics
